(Panel 31) Pte. 3141, Alfred James Dent, 59th Bn. Australian Infantry, A.I.F.: s. of James Dent, of Frankston, Victoria, by his wife Mary Ann: b. Frankston, 1891: Occupation – Labourer: enlisted Warragul 27 November 1916; apptd. 8th Rfts. 59th Battn. 8 December; departed Melbourne, 16 December: trained England, 18 February–14 June 1917: joined 59th Battn. In the Field 9 July. Killed in action at Tokyo Ridge, 16 October 1917 by shellfire. Buried where he fell. Age 26. unm. Remains recovered from an unmarked grave (28.D.29.c.3.3) 18 February 1927; identified – Damaged Disc, Collar Badge; reinterred, registered 19 February 1927. Buried in Sanctuary Wood Cemetery (III.G.8).

Australian Infantry, A.I.F.: late of 1, Livingstone Street, North Melbourne, Victoria: s. of Otto Graubin, of 7 de Tingen, 26 Barghell, Helsingfors, Finland, Russia: b. Helsingfors (Helsinki), December 1883: Religion – Lutheran: formerly a Sailor; at enlistment – Melbourne, 11 May 1916 – was gainfully employed as Farm Labourer: 5ʹ4¾ʺ tall, blue eyes, black hair: posted 4th Rfts. 59th Battn. Castlemaine, 22 July: departed Melbourne, A.67 ‘Orsova,’ 1 August: disembarked Plymouth, 14 September following, and proceeded to Larkhill Camp: admitted 15th Training Battn Hospital, Larkhill (20 September), Venereal Disease; transf’d. Fargo Military Hospital (21 September) Tachial Abscesses / V.D., and placed in isolation: discharged to duty, 1 October: Awarded (Codford Camp, 18 October) 12 days Field Punishment No.2, and Forfeiture 14 Days Pay, for ‘Overstaying Leave, 9–11 October’: proceeded to France with a draft of 139 reinforcements, 6 December: joined 59th Battn. Ribemont, 29 December 1916. Reported missing following the battalion’s attack, 26 September 1917, nr. Black Watch Corner, Polygon Wood; since adjudged by a Court of Enquiry (22 March 1918) to have been killed in action on that date. Age 33. unm. A Russian subject and reservist of the Imperial Russian Army, Pte. Graubin was compelled to join the A.I.F. due to his inability to return to Russia. See account re. Pte. W.G. Australian Infantry, A.I.F.: formerly N37923: s. of the late John Alfred Jacobson, and his wife Caroline Charlotte Jacobson (43, Stanley Street, Berhampore, Wellington, New Zealand); and yr. brother to L/Corpl. 30593, E.R. Jacobson, 3rd Wellington Regt., N.Z.E.F., killed in action, 4 October 1917: b. Wellington, 1888: Occupation – Plumber: joined A.I.F., Royal Agricultural Show-grounds, Moore Park, N.S.W., 18 September 1916; Pte. 55th Battn.: departed Sydney, A19 ‘Afric,’ 7th Rfts. 59th Battn. 3 November: served with the Expeditionary Force in France from April 1917, and was killed by shellfire when returning from a patrol of no man’s land on the night of 14–15 October 1917. Buried by 1st ANZAC Corps Burial Officer, 28NE.J5.b.25.50. Age 29. He leaves a widow, Alice Jacobson (Lennack Street, Enfield, New South Wales); and two pre-nuptial children, Oscar and Chrissie. Remains recovered from an unmarked grave (28.J.5.b.0.6) 1½ miles S.
